Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to
  • Review the etiology and pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus
  • Discuss insulin resistance as the core pathophysiology of Type 2 diabetes
  • Discuss the role insulin resistance plays in the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD)
  • Manage diabetes in patients with a history of cardiovascular events
  • Discuss the most current therapies and up-to-date clinical data for the treatment of insulin resistance
Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of cardiologists, endocrinologists, and primary care physicians who treat the cardiovascular patient with comorbid insulin resistance of diabetes.
Statement Of Need
Recent acceptance of the concept of diabetes Type 2 belonging to an Insulin Resistance Syndrome has made the need for cross-specialty consensus much clearer to most physicians. This activity is designed to increase the physician's knowledge and awareness of insulin resistance and the pre-diabetic condition and to help physicians target insulin resistance for therapeutic intervention.
